Example 1
A man has died and two firemen hospitalised after a crash at the Post Road and Rollins Avenue intersection this morning.
The fire truck had its lights and sirens going and was responding to a false emergency when the collision happened with a van travelling at about 60kmh just after 7am.
Their condition was unknown as we went to print last night.
The van was destroyed and the fire truck had $90,000 damage. Authorities said fault has not been determined.
Example 2
Small two-door and sport or speciality cars have the worst injury and repair records, a new Canberra report has found today.
A Highway Loss Data Institute study shows small cars have injury claim frequencies and repair losses 30 percent higher than average.
It found that many large cars show between 40 percent to 50 percent better than average claim records.
The analysis said a driver in a late model four-door Holden station wagon is 41 percent less likely than average to be hurt in an accident.
Example 3
Every five days someone dies from choking on a hotdog in Victoria, a study last week has found.
The Journal of the Victorian Medical Association found hotdogs should never be cut crosswise.
The study also found children under four should never eat a whole hotdog.
“If you were trying to design something that would be perfect to block a child’s airway, it would be a bitesize piece of hotdog,” a researcher said.
Other foods dangerous to children under nine are lollies, nuts, grapes, apples, carrots, and popcorn.
